Arizona FSA State Committee appointments

The Obama administration has announced three appointments to the Arizona Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Committee.

State Committee members oversee the activities of the agency, including carrying out the state agricultural conservation programs, resolving appeals from the agriculture community, and helping to keep producers informed about FSA programs.

The three appointees include:

• Rosario Hurtado, chair

Hurtado of Parker, Ariz., previously served on the FSA State Committee during the Clinton administration. Hurtado was recently a member of the Arizona Cotton Growers Association and served on the University of Arizona's La Paz County Extension Board.

• William Jeffers

Jeffers, Holbrook, Ariz., is president of the Jeffers Cattle Corporation, a family ranch. Jeffers has been actively involved in his community serving on the Northland Pioneer College Governing Board, and the Navajo County Natural Resources Conservation District.

• Alan Robbs

Robbs, Willcox, Ariz., has co-managed Robbs Farms and currently handles all day-to-day farming operations for the farm. He recently served on the Arizona Cotton Research and Protection Board.

"These individuals will work with USDA to help farmers and ranchers build and maintain successful operations that produce the safe, nutritious food supply that America needs while spurring economic development in our nation's rural communities," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said.

USDA's Farm Service Agency works to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural Americans.

Some of the agency's efforts include facilitating income support, disaster assistance and conservation programs, providing operating loans for the procurement of farm equipment, seed and fertilizer, plus offering ownership loans to help new and veteran producers purchase a farm.
