The California Strawberry Commission (CSC) invites you to submit a concept proposal to request funding for clinical research into the health benefits of strawberry consumption.

The commission is a state government agency representing more than 300 strawberry farmers, shippers and processors, working to advance strawberry farming.

"Commission programs create opportunities for success through groundbreaking programs focused on workforce training, strawberry production research, and nutrition research," the panel said in a news release. "Through science-based information and education, we deliver the good news about sustainable farming practices that benefit the health of people, farms, and communities."

The Concept Proposal is the first step in our notice of funding availability (NOFA) and review process. Here are detailed guidelines for completing the Concept Proposal by June 30, 2021.

The CSC Nutrition Research Subcommittee will review all submissions and notify those selected to submit a full proposal. If selected, you will receive additional guidelines and be asked to submit a full research proposal by September 1, 2021. Final funding decisions will be made after review and approval by the Nutrition Research Subcommittee and the CSC Board of Directors in January of 2022.

Other proposals sought

The commission is also inviting qualified researchers from public and private research organizations to request funding for projects that will directly benefit the California strawberry industry. Applied and basic research projects with clear benefits to California strawberry growers will be considered.

For the 2022 funding year, all new and continuing research proposals should be submitted in response to this request for proposals (RFP). Proposals are considered New if they represent research that is not currently funded by the commission or for projects that have reached the end of their current funding cycle (normally three years) and are no longer eligible for funding as continuing projects. Proposals will be considered continuing if they are currently in their first or second year of funding by the commission and are seeking funds for a second or third year.

Proposal submission deadline is Friday, Aug. 6, 2021. The RFP guidelines are here.
