The California Citrus Research Board (CRB) just launched a nationwide search for a new president after announcing the departure of Gary Schulz, who served with the organization since 2015.

The announcement comes as the organization turns 50 years old. A free one-day citrus conference will be held Oct. 10 at the Wyndham Hotel in Visalia to celebrate that milestone.

CRB Chairman Dan Dreyer says the organization hopes to have a new president in place by the end of the year.

“This year marks the Citrus Research Board’s 50th anniversary (and) as we celebrate this milestone, we are also redirecting ourselves to do our utmost to ensure the success of the California citrus grower,” Dreyer said in a prepared statement.

Among the leading research issues for the organization will be continued studies of Huanglongbing, a deadly citrus disease.

“Our search committee will be looking for a strong, research-focused senior executive – a consensus builder who can lead the organization and the California citrus industry through this challenging time and significantly contribute to the sustainability of California growers,” Dreyer said.

The CRB administers the California Citrus Research Program, a grower-funded and grower-directed program established by the industry to sponsor and support necessary research.
