Bagged avocado sales gained momentum in 2020, according to industry insiders.

Research shows that 2020 dollar sales of the bagged commodity rose more than 25% over the previous year, the California Avocado Commission reported in social media posts.

Bagged avocado volume boomed, rising more than 41%, according to the commission. The data is from IRI/FreshLook, a market research company.

The increases came as restaurant and school closures amid the coronavirus pandemic led to a resurgence in home-prepared meals.

Created in 1978, the commission strives to enhance the premium positioning of California avocados through advertising, promotion and public relations, and engages in related industry activities, according to its website.

About 70% of CAC’s current budget goes toward marketing, which includes developing strategic, targeted programs with retailers and food service operators.
