Former EPA official joins DC firm

Prior to serving as assistant administrator for OPPTS, from March 2000 to January 2001, Aidala served as associate assistant administrator for OPPTS from 1993 to 2000. From 1991 to 1993, he worked on the House Subcommittee on Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources, where he was in charge of oversight of EPA's implementation of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

During his career, he was the director of policy development at the Wallace Institute for Alternative Agriculture (1990-199l) and was a policy expert on FIFRA and TSCA at the Congressional Research Service (1983-1990), which is part of the U.S. Library of Congress. Aidala also served as a professional staff member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Government Affairs, Subcommittee on Energy (1981-1983). He did his undergraduate and graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brown University, and Harvard University.

Aidala will provide strategic and policy advice to clients on a broad range of agricultural, industrial, and biological product approval and defense matters involving pesticide, toxic substance, endocrine disruptor, HPV testing, cumulative risk, and biotechnology regulatory programs and policy matters.

“The depth of Jim’s extraordinary government service and his skill in navigating issues through senior government decision makers is matched only by the passion, wit, and finesse that he devotes to problem solving,” said Lynn L. Bergeson, a principal of the law firm.

“Jim led the team that drafted the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), was involved in every Hill deliberation of FIFRA issues over the past two decades, and was senior political official at OPPTS for the last two years of the Clinton Administration. We are delighted Jim has made the move to our team, and believe that his policy and government affairs background are a perfect complement to the legal and science policy skills we now offer.”
