Livestock producers need hay. Forage producers need buyers. Colorado has worked to bring the buyers and sellers together for more than 30 years with the annual publication of the state's hay directory.
The new 2017 Colorado Hay Directory has been published by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. While copies of the directory can be obtained from the department, the latest version is available online in PDF format. The 32-page directory divides sources up by six regions in the state, and offers detailed information about what is offered from each provider.
Hay buyers with special needs can find sources in this guide. For example, seeking small grass hay bales for your horse farm? No problem; you'll find several sources. Want big square bales for your dairy? Again, no problem; the guide offers a range of sources. The listing will also note whether or not a laboratory analysis is available and whether the hay has certified weed-free status, and it identifies organic hay sources.
Wendy White, marketing specialist for CDA, noted that the publication "connects Colorado hay producers with buyers across the state and nation. It is a valuable resource for horse and livestock owners."
The 31st edition of the Colorado Hay Directory features producers and brokers of hay, along with companies that provide hay-related products and services.
Published by CDA in cooperation with participating Colorado hay producers and Colorado State University, the directory gets support from Hutchison Incorporated, Key/Ag, ProAg-Morris Industries Inc., Strohauer Farms and Tytan International.
The directory and other hay resources, including the Colorado Cattlemen's Association Hay Availability List, are available online at coloradoagriculture.com. For more information, or to requested a copy of the 2017 Colorado Hay Directory, call 303-869-9175.
