Florida schedules beef cattle, forage field day

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 3rd Annual Beef Cattle/Forage Field Day at the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, or UF/IFAS’ North Florida Research and Education Center Beef Unit in Marianna, Fla., on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005.

The program will begin at 8:00 a.m. CDT and will end at 3:00 p.m. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The field day will include demonstrations along with field tours of ongoing research. Topics covered will include an update and demonstration of the new Feed Efficiency Facility, the integration of cattle grazing into a crop rotation scheme, fertilization of pastures, weed control in pastures, an update on cool season forages, and mineral supplementation of the cow herd.

The NFREC-Beef Unit is located one mile west of Greenwood, Fla. on state highway 162. A registration fee of $5 will be charged. To register, visit
