Amanda-Clearcreek FFA chapter has a lot to be proud of. Speakers in all five categories placed in the state competition, and two individuals — brother and sister — won their respective state public speaking contests. They will advance to the national FFA competition to represent Ohio at the national Career Development Event contest this fall.

“We are incredibly proud of all five of our speakers for advancing to this state competition and doing so well in their categories. Just qualifying for state is a tremendous accomplishment,” says Scott Sharp, Amanda-Clearcreek FFA advisor. “No other school in Ohio had students advance to the state-level competition in all five speaking categories like we did. This really shows the dedication and hard work our students are putting toward learning this lifelong skill.”

Aaron Sharp placed first in the state in the Extemporaneous category, and Sara Sharp placed first in the Creed-Speaking category. Both Sharp siblings will advance to the national contest in Indianapolis this fall. Kiley Holbrook placed second in the state in the Advanced Creed category, Allie Poston finished in the top six in the state in the Senior Prepared Speaking category and Morgan Anderson finished in the top 10 in the state in the Beginning Prepared Speaking category.

16 individual wins at state level

These public speakers have continued to build on the A-C FFA chapter’s success, which now includes winning the state 16 times in individual public speaking contests. This is the second year in a row that Amanda-Clearcreek FFA had members in all five public speaking categories advance to the state competition.

“These students are learning the valuable skill of public speaking that will benefit them for the rest of their lives,” says J.B. Dick, Amanda-Clearcreek Local Schools superintendent. “We cannot be more proud of their dedication and hard work, and look forward to seeing their skills continue to develop leading up the national competition this fall.”

One of the largest chapters in the state of Ohio, the A-C FFA Chapter has around 170 members this year, including several graduates. This is well over one-third of the high school student body and is about a 50-50 split between girls and boys. In 2018, the chapter earned a prestigious national three-star Gold Chapter designation — the highest ranking achievable from the National FFA Organization.
