Nitrogen management tips

“If you’re going to grow high-yielding corn, you’ve got to get your nitrogen management correct; we can’t fail,” says Jason Webster, director, Central Illinois Practical Farm Research. “Nitrogen is the one thing we can control.”

The farm is Beck's research farm where they look for ways to increase yield and profits for corn and soybean growers. Hundreds of trials happen at the central Illinois location that cover agronomics to new technology.

This is the third year using Y Drop at the research farm; it replaces the dribble system, Webster says. “It’s a great way to spoon-feed fertilizer and get it right into soil profile to feed that corn plant, right away.”

Webster also talks using UnderCover with Y Drop for fungicide applications, as well as possible yield gains using tools like Y Drop.
