GROWING: Since its inception in 2011, Sukup Steel Structures has increased its sales steadily, including a 50% increase from 2015 to 2016.

Iowa-based Sukup Manufacturing Co. has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of SBC Building Systems in Ambridge, Pa. Since its inception in 2011, Sukup’s steel building product line has sold more than 350 buildings. The number sold per year has grown steadily, including a 50% increase from 2015 to 2016. The company manufactures and sells both farm and commercial buildings.

The SBC deal will allow Sukup Steel Structures (a wholly owned subsidiary of Sukup Mfg. Co., noted for grain bins, dryers and grain handling equipment) to expand its presence on the East Coast. Currently, Sukup has a satellite office for its steel buildings department in Pennsylvania.

SBC’s facility has capacity to fabricate and ship up to 600 tons per week of complete building systems. Their frame-making process uses three full-feature plasma cutting machines and other technology enabling SBC to put out 240 tons of steel frame per week. “We were very impressed with SBC’s operation and manufacturing capabilities,” says Steve Sukup, vice president of Sukup Mfg., headquartered in Sheffield, Iowa. “Their philosophy of using great people and the most advanced manufacturing equipment to produce the highest-quality product aligns with ours. This, along with their commitment to customer service, is what made it clear they would be a good fit for us.”

Along with manufacturing capabilities, SBC has international sales experience, and accreditations and international code compliance in multiple countries. “It’s exciting to be able to increase the capacity of our steel buildings line with SBC’s manufacturing facility,” says Sukup’s president, Charles Sukup. “It’s the logical next step to continue the growth of Sukup Steel Buildings.”
