The Chevrolet Silverado is getting a fully redesigned model for 2019 to be introduced in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. There are also rumors that Ram is looking to show a brand new design for its trucks for 2019 too. Both are working to take on Ford, the perennial sales leader in this vehicle class.

This slide show shares the publicly available information at this time, though there are rumors that Chevy will turn to carbon fiber for some parts to reduce weight while also adding strength (we'll have to see what the official announcement says in January). It was January 1918 when Chevrolet launched its first pickup, the 2019 model will celebrate that 100-year history.

The new truck was shown at a special 100th anniversary kick-off event held in Texas. Click through this show to see the truck, and some images from the 100th anniversary event the company held where this truck was first shown. There's a Chevy video below too.
