For 40 years, lubricant company Shell Rotella has recognized “SuperRigs” by highlighting the best-looking big rigs in the country. In 2021, the company turned its attention to farm tractors with the SuperTractor competition, and it’s repeating the contest for 2022.

“With SuperRigs, the truck drivers have created a community around it, and really as a brand, we like the opportunity to be able to use it as a way to highlight and celebrate the hard work truck drivers do,” says Annie Peter, brand manager for North America. “We thought we would take a page from that book and bring it to the ag sector for our farmers.”

The hook is National Farmers Day, Oct. 12, when the 2022 SuperTractor will be announced. This virtual program is linked to the Shell Rotella MyMilesMatter rewards program, offering customers benefits when they buy company products.

The key to this program is to highlight the hard work farmers do and the pride they take in their equipment. “It’s important for us to celebrate farmers, and we want to put a spotlight on the pride they have in their work and equipment by hosting SuperTractors in the weeks leading up to National Farmers Day,” Peter says.

Short time to enter

Entries opened for this virtual contest on Sept. 19, and it closes 5 p.m. Central time on Sept. 30. That’s a short time to get a great photo of your best tractor and submit it for the awards. And while the 2021 winner was a vintage 1958 John Deere machine owned by Brian Lauer of Wichita, Kan., the contest is open to all kinds of tractors.

Peter says entries in 2021 included a range of vintage and later-model machines. “We had modified tractors used in [National Tractor Pullers Association] tractor pulls; we had a whole range of tractors entered,” she says. “It’s whatever people are proud of on their farms, and we’re celebrating the full range of machines.”

Entries will be posted online, and members of the MyMilesMatter program can vote on the entrants. Voting lasts 10 days, starting at 10 a.m. Central time Oct. 1 and ending at 5 p.m. Oct. 11.

The winner will be contacted by an authorized representative, and the news will be announced on National Farmers Day, Oct. 12, by Farmer Grayce on the Shell Rotella social media channels — @ShellRotella on both Twitter and Facebook.

There are strict rules about voting, limiting any potential ballot box stuffing. Voters have to be registered on the MyMilesMatter platform and can submit one vote per day per email address. “We started virtual voting with the SuperRigs program in 2020 due to the pandemic,” Peter says. “It’s worked out well.”

And if your SuperTractor wins? The winner receives $250 and 10,000 MyMilesMatter reward points, which Peter says can be used for products like gift cards or more Rotella products. The winner “can build on those points in their next round of oil changes for fall harvest,” she adds. The user decides how best to spend the points.
