Farm shows are multifaceted events appealing to a range of visitors. Our focus has long been on agriculture technology and enhancing farmer knowledge, but sometimes that means a little fun, too. And that’s what we’re adding at Farm Progress Show. Meanwhile over in Grand Island, Neb., we’re building on our beef program for Husker Harvest Days.

First, have you considered the idea of dogs “flying” to capture a prized toy? We’ve seen it on the farm, but have you seen it in a competitive format? You read that right. We’re working with North American Diving Dogs for a special event that will take place all three days of the Farm Progress Show — to be held this year in Boone, Iowa.

Essentially, this is a canine sport, with dogs enticed to run the length of a dock and leap as far out into the water as possible to compete for height or distance. They’re motivated to catch that prized toy that’s been thrown just out of reach. The aim is to get the best launch angle possible. Sound fun? It’s dynamic.

If you have a great flying dog, you can enter him or her to compete at northamericandivingdogs.com. The website is also packed with training tips. It’s going to be a fun event. And we thank Grinnell Mutual for sponsoring the event. Learn more about all things Farm Progress Show at FarmProgressShow.com.

More beef for cattle producers

There’s no doubt these are trying times in the beef industry. At Husker Harvest Days this year, we’re building on something new we offered in 2019 — a solid program of beef information for producers.

Held in the cattle demo facility and significantly upgraded three years ago, the presentations will offer information on genetics, marketing, grazing and consumer opportunities.

Interspersed between the cattle demonstrations, you’ll hear from Burt Rutherford, editor, BEEF magazine; Alan Newport, editor, Beef Producer magazine; Doug Ferguson, cattle marketing adviser; and for two days, Amanda Radke, columnist for BEEF magazine and a well-known beef advocate.

With livestock marketing and management becoming more sophisticated, we’re providing tools and insight you can put to work on your operation. Make plans to join us.
