There’s an old saying: “Go where the market is.” With livestock prices at record highs, machinery makers are focusing some of their new-product efforts on this segment. The Maxxum tractor is a midrange “chore” tractor with premium features that for 2015 is getting a range of upgrades.

First, Case IH has moved to a single wheelbase for the line. In the past, this tractor model had two wheelbases — short and long — depending on the horsepower range. “We’ve gone to a single wheelbase,” says David Bogan, Case IH marketing manager. “It’s a little longer — about an inch — than the Tier 4a model, so not much of a change.”

And at the top end, Case IH is still offering a model with a six-cylinder engine, the Maxxum 150, in this tractor class. The rest are powered by a fourcylinder Tier 4b (or final) engine.

Built in Baseldon, England, the new machines get a new look that Case IH says offers a preview of what’s to come for larger tractors, too.

The newly styled cab features eight high-power LED lights, and more can be added as an option. In fact, you can have up to 14 lights on the cab. That single-wheelbase design provides an improved turning radius for greater stability.

There are two transmission options for the Maxxum: a semi-powershift transmission, or you can upgrade to a new Continuously Variable Transmission with a double-clutch design that allows smooth shifting and maintains continuous power to the ground. The tractor also features the Case IH Multi-Control Armrest, like its big brother Magnum, for greater ease of operation.

Bogan points to a number of improvements to the machine, including a change in the way the standard and optional hydraulic stack is arranged at the back. “It just makes more sense now for the user,” he notes. “It’s a cleaner design in the arrangement of the remotes.”

The lineup includes the four-cylinder 115, 125, 135 and 145 machines, and the six-cylinder Maxxum 150. Bogan says prices range from $102,000 for the smallest machine to $137,000 for a topend model. Learn more at caseih.com/maxxum.

The A Series Farmall line gets an upgrade with the new 100 line. Case IH uses the A, C and U designations to show the level of options included in the machines, with A being more of a valuepriced model range. The lineup includes a new cab design, too.

“These are basic, simple tractors,” says Denny Stroo, Case IH Farmall product manager. “This is a price point and feature level that’s popular for the market.” In fact, as Farm Industry News talked with Stroo, a farmer listened in and later shared he liked the new A Series “because I can work on it.”

The high-visibility cab (shown) offers a new feature for Farmall owners — the training seat. “That was requested by a lot of customers,” Stroo says. The 100A line’s Tier 4b engines require only selective catalytic reduction to meet emission standards. The new machines also feature improved fluid efficiency.

The lineup includes 110A, 120A, 130A and 140A models with engine horsepower from 110 to 140. The price for a two-wheel-drive open station 110A is $57,700, and for a 140A, it’s about $74,000. A cab adds $11,000. Mechanical front-drive adds $6,800. Visit caseih.com
