Winter conference season is kicking into high gear in the West, as pre-Thanksgiving agricultural events in California, Nevada and Montana are still taking registrations.
In California, Reedley College near Fresno is holding its Agriculture Conference on Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the McClarty Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
Attendees will hear an update on Reedley’s ag program and future, see in-field ag-tech demonstrations, learn about grant and incentive programs for growers, and hear from experts in food safety and technology, according to a flier.

In Nevada, the 2024 Governor’s Conference on Agriculture is happening Nov. 20 at the Rafter 3C Arena in Fallon, Nev. Sponsored by the state Department of Agriculture, the free conference returns after a six-year hiatus and immediately precedes the 88th annual Nevada Cattlemen’s Association Convention and Trade Show on Nov. 20-22.
“We hope that by partnering with the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association and hosting this before their annual meeting will make it more accessible for our agriculture community to attend,” said NDA Director J.J. Goicoechea.
The Governor's Conference will include sessions on business resources for the agriculture industry, an industry outlook, and licensing and certification information, according to the NDA.

Cattle Academy
Meanwhile, Montana State University Extension will host the Cattle Academy on Nov. 19-20 at the Custer County Event Center, 72 Garryowen Road in Miles City. The new, biennial regional conference seeks to give beef cattle producers information on timely topics, current research and innovative technologies related to production and management, according to the university.
Registration is required by Friday, Nov. 15. The Cattle Academy will begin at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
MSU Extension beef cattle specialists currently host an annual Montana Nutrition Conference and Livestock Forum in Bozeman, and they created the Cattle Academy to better serve producers, stakeholders and industry representatives in the eastern region of the state, according to Megan Van Emon, MSU Extension beef cattle specialist and conference chair.
“The new Cattle Academy was developed to bring knowledge to livestock producers throughout the entire region,” Van Emon said. “This conference was developed with regional Extension faculty to provide a broad range of topics encompassing beef cattle and ranch management.”
