Pennsylvania Farm Show names first-ever ‘Master Showman’

Heidi Barkley, 19, will have her named engraved on a plaque that will be hung in the Small Arena.

Ten participants from across the state were chosen to participate in the first-ever Master Showman Competition at this year’s Pennsylvania Farm Show.

In the end, Heidi Barkley, 19, Manns Choice, Pa., won the competition, becoming the first-ever winner of the award.

Competitors ranged in age from 12 to 19 and represented every market species shown at this year’s show.

For her win, Barkley will get a year’s use of a Wilson livestock trailer from EMM Trailer Sales and Service. She will also have her name engraved on a plaque that will be kept in the Small Arena at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. She represented the market lamb division.

The second-place winner, Kaitlin Bell, 17, Nottingham, Pa., received a $250 gift certificate to Weaver’s Leather Livestock Supply. She first showed in the market cattle division.

Alexa Miles, 15, McDonald, Pa., came in third place. She first showed in the market goat division.

Sponsors of the competition included the Friends of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Foundation and Green Mountain Energy.
