The 26th annual North Louisiana Ag Expo will move from the Monroe Civic Center to the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe in 2008.

The event, which promotes the agribusiness industry and educates the public on the importance of agriculture, will be Jan. 18-19, according to Janet Rutledge, executive director of the North Louisiana Agri-Business Council.

“With more space available, we hope to continue to grow the livestock show,” said Cynthia Stephens, LSU AgCenter extension agent in Ouachita Parish.

The LSU AgCenter coordinates the livestock show along with a mini-farm, forestry forum and Ag Alley, which are all part of the Ag Expo. Ag Alley is a combination of several “alleys” filled with information about different commodities grown in Louisiana. Sweet potatoes, cotton, horses and horticulture will be featured.

In addition, the LSU AgCenter’s Body Walk will be set up for youth tours. This room-sized exhibit, which is co-sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, is designed to help the fight against childhood obesity. It features a nine-stop tour of displays that feature parts of the human body including the brain, mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, bones, muscles and skin.
