Every year four Farm Progress editors comb the exhibit field at the Farm Progress Show, looking for new products. Even in a downtime for the ag economy, companies are moving forward, bringing new models and new technology to market. In fact, the consensus of the editors who searched for new products this year is that there may have been more products finished just in time for the show — or that weren’t even finished and available to buy yet — than at any other time in recent memory. The agriculture industry is definitely moving forward despite lean times.

The four editors who made up the Farm Progress Show new products team this year were: Tom J. Bechman, editor of Indiana Prairie Farmer; Mindy Ward, editor of Missouri Ruralist; Curt Arens, field editor for Nebraska Farmer; and Jill Loehr, associate editor of Prairie Farmer. While searching for new products across such an expansive exhibit field may seem like a daunting task, the team cuts it down to size by splitting the field into four quadrants.

Each editor chooses a quadrant and walks the streets just like show visitors. They ask exhibitors if they are displaying any new products this year. To classify as a new product, the criteria are that the product was not shown at the previous Farm Progress Show, and was released for sale after the previous Farm Progress Show. In a few instances, products that have never been exhibited before in the U.S. are included as new products.

Meeting the requirements was no problem for a large number of products. Many were just released this summer or at the show, or still aren’t for sale yet. Several prototypes are included in this year’s list of new products. 360 Yield Center takes the prize for having six new products that won’t be available until 2018 or later. The company wanted visitors to see the concepts that are under development.

From their findings, the editors each identified two new products ready for market that he or she thinks are the most innovative in design, or in what they allow the farmer to accomplish. Check out those products here. The entire rundown of more than 200 new products will be headed your way soon.
