This year's Colusa Farm Show, which opened Tuesday, features more than 200 exhibitors.

Thousands are flocking to the fairgrounds in Colusa, Calif., this week for the self-proclaimed "granddaddy of farm shows" -- the 54th annual Colusa Farm Show.

The show opened Tuesday and was running through Thursday, offering what its website describes as one-stop shopping for farm services. Having started as a low-key orchard festival, the showcase aims to acquaint agriculturalists with the latest in modern farming equipment and techniques, the website explains,

The show has drawn as many as 40,000 people, including farmers and suppliers from all over the world, according to organizers. More than 200 exhibitors are listed.

The event features the latest in large equipment displayed in a side parking lot and on grassy areas of the fairgrounds, plus smaller booths whose wide variety of vendors include financial services companies, the California Walnut Board and the University of California Cooperative Extension. In addition, the show includes a series of grower workshops, sponsored by the UCCE and commodity groups.

A highlight of the show will be the 17th annual Colusa Farm Show Rabobank Breakfast, to be held at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Saint Bernadette’s Hall, 745 Ware St., in Colusa. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea will return as keynote speaker after his experiences managing the public safety response to the 2017 Oroville Dam spillway incident at last year's breakfast. This year, he'll discuss the response to the devastating Camp Fire, according to a California State University-Chico news release.

In addition, Roland Fumasi, senior vice president and agricultural economist for Rabobank’s RaboResearch division, will provide an update on the economic outlook of agriculture in the coming year.

Hosted by alumni of Chico State's College of Agriculture, California Agricultural Leadership Foundation, and Alpha Gamma Rho, the event has raised nearly $450,000 for scholarships and leadership programs in its 16-year history, according to the release.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $50 by contacting the College of Agriculture Office at 530-898-5844 or register online. The ticket price will rise to $75 at the door. All proceeds go to the CSU-Chico College of Agriculture and the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation.

From Colusa, many vendors will head to next week's World Ag Expo, to be held Feb. 12-14 at the International Agri-Center in Tulare, Calif.
