A machinery auction will be held for the first time at the Farm Progress Show. An estimated $30 million worth of premium preowned machinery will be auctioned.

“We will have perhaps the largest auction event to occur in the central U.S. this year,” says Don Van Houweling, CEO of Van Wall Equipment, a John Deere dealership holding the auction. “This auction will be loaded with late-model premium Deere equipment.”

The Farm Progress Show is a premier agricultural event attracting a lot of visitors, he notes.

“Our success as a dealership working with farmers has created this opportunity,” he says. “We are the largest Deere dealer in this region, and we have a lot of nice preowned equipment.

“Hosting this auction is the best way to get this machinery into the hands of the right people.”

Wide selection for sale

Equipment will be available on-site at the Farm Progress Show grounds and at the nearby Van Wall Equipment location in Nevada, Iowa, for visitors to see and inspect.

A sizable amount of machinery will be displayed — enough to occupy the equivalent of three football fields. All kinds of equipment will be auctioned:

  • tractors

  • combines

  • planters

  • sprayers

  • grain carts

  • balers

  • tillage tools

  • excavation equipment

The auction will go online before the Farm Progress Show is held at Boone on Aug. 27-29. That will give people the chance to see the equipment to be auctioned and to start bidding.

“You’ll be able to see and touch the machinery you are bidding on by attending the Farm Progress Show in person,” Van Houweling says.

Because this auction is so large, it isn’t a typical machinery auction. The emphasis is on quality. Machinery dealers sometimes put equipment up for auction that maybe isn’t their best preowned equipment.

“For this Farm Progress Show auction sale, we have a lot of nice, premium equipment,” Van Houweling says.

Quality equipment offered

The emphasis on high-quality equipment is a key consideration for bidders to keep in mind. It is reflected in the name of this auction: “The Biggest and the Best,” powered by Van Wall.

How will the transactions be handled? The Sullivan BigIron Auction group is conducting the auction for Van Wall. This includes both the online bidding and the in-person bidding at the Van Wall dealership exhibit at the Farm Progress Show.

To view the equipment online, visit bigiron.com and click the “Van Wall Biggest & Best” auction link on the homepage.

To submit your bid online ahead of the show, visit bigiron.com. You can also bid in person if you attend the Farm Progress Show on the two days of the sale at the show. Visit the Van Wall exhibit. The auction will end when the show ends Aug. 29.

“It’s great to partner with the Van Wall team on this ‘Biggest and Best’ sales event,” says Matt Jungmann, national events director for Farm Progress. “Don Van Houweling has been a supporter of the Farm Progress Show since Day 1 in Boone. It’s great for that partnership to extend in a big way into the show’s exhibit field layout.”
