1. An Iowa Supreme Court has found that 10 drainage districts northwest of Des Moines can't be held liable for high levels of nitrates in the Raccoon River, where the city of Des Moines gets its water. The Iowa Supreme Court said that the drainage districts have legal immunity. The ruling doesn't stop a federal trial set for June, dealing with the Clean Water Act. – Iowa Public Radio

2. Mexico's government has begun a formal 90-day consultation with the nation's business community in advance of talks to revise the North American Free Trade Agreement. President Trump earlier indicated he intends to revise NAFTA to get more favorable terms for the United States. Mexico is the third leading export market for U.S. agricultural products. – Farm Futures

3. A couple award winners were announced this week. The 2017 Innovative Dairy Farmer of the Year is Jer-Lindy Farms LLC of Brooten, Minn. – Farm Futures – And the 2016 winner of the Environmental Stewardship Award Program is Black Leg Ranch of McKenzie, N.D. – Beef Producer

4. The animal rights group, Mercy for Animals, released a videos on Tuesday that is reported to show animal cruelty at an Oklahoma hog farm, Maschhoffs, LLC. Hormel Foods said it would send third-party auditors to investigate the claims made in the video. - CNBC

5. On Dec. 14, 2016, the Obama administration released rules, called Farmer Fair Practice rules, regarding contract provisions between livestock producers and processors. President Trump has put the rules in limbo with one of his executive orders. – Farm Futures

6. The Colorado Department of Agriculture is sharing its marijuana growing knowledge with other states in the event that the federal government makes the crop legal. – Beloit Daily News

7. Farmers expect another lousy year for profit-making, but there's optimism for the long haul. The number of farmers whose businesses are vulnerable actually dropped earlier this year. Also, the number of farmers who worry about paying back debt has decreased. – Farm Futures
