INPUT SOUGHT: Michigan is accepting comments from producers on the 2019 Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices.

Producers have until 5 p.m. Oct. 29 to make comments on Michigan’s 2019 Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices now under review.

A public input meeting will also be held 9 a.m. Oct. 29 in the Gordon Guyer Conference Room in the William C. Geagley Laboratory, 1615 S. Harrison Road in East Lansing.

Public comments will be accepted on the following GAAMPs, which have proposed changes for 2019:
• manure management and utilization
• care of farm animals
• site selection and odor control for new and expanding livestock facilities
• irrigation water use

The GAAMPs regarding nutrient utilization, cranberry production, farm markets, and pesticide utilization and pest control have no proposed changes for 2019.

Written comments may be submitted to MDARD’s Environmental Stewardship Division, P.O. Box 30017, Lansing, MI 48909 and postmarked no later than Oct. 29, or emailed to [email protected] by 5 p.m. Oct. 29.

MDARD will forward all comments received by the due date to the respective GAAMPs task force committee chairperson for consideration prior to final review and adoption.

The GAAMPs are reviewed annually by committees of various experts and are revised and updated as necessary. The GAAMPs are reviewed and approved by the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development each year.
