SEMINARS SCHEDULED: The annual seminar “Farm Employment: Your Questions Answered” will take be Jan. 15, 17, 22 and 24.

From family housing issues to farm labor contracts, the law firm Varnum LLP and the Michigan Farm Bureau’s Great Lake Ag Labor Services are teaming up to host four farming-related seminars in January.

The annual “Farm Employment: Your Questions Answered” will be Jan. 15, 17, 22 and 24.

According to the Grand Rapids-based Varnum, farmers and various ag employers will have the opportunity to “learn about the latest developments in agriculture employment and get a preview of the Agricultural Employment Compliance Guide, an online resource with up-to-date information on federal and state laws that affect farm employers and practical tips on everyday employment issues for Michigan farmers.”

Topic for this year’s seminar include employee terminations, family housing issues, farm labor contractors and medical issues. Also, an H2A session will focus on such issues as experience requirements, productivity standards and domestic employment. This part of the event is complimentary, but it still requires registration.

Presenters will be Kim Clarke, an attorney for Varnum; Katie Vargas, operations manager of Great Lake Ag Labor Services; and Laurie Swanson, assistant operations manager of GLALS.
