The late Tom Bauman served as a Purdue University Extension weed specialist, researcher and teacher during his entire career. Born in West Lafayette, he never left his hometown. Bauman was in charge of the extensive weed control trials at Purdue's agronomic research center for many years. He shepherded farmers through the beginning of the pesticide applicator certification process, and was involved in evaluating herbicide performance of glyphosate on glyphosate-resistant soybeans when that technology arrived in the 1990s. Bauman was honored in 2010. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 75.
