Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation District Area VI awarded two scholarships to high school graduates.

Area VI of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts recently announced scholarship winners in its essay contest.

Area VI is represented by 11 counties in southern Minnesota.

First place and a $1,000 scholarship have been awarded to Madalynn Wulkan of Hector, Minn., a graduate of Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart High School. Her essay concerned the importance of pollinators in the environment. She plans on attending Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

Second place and a $500 scholarship have been awarded to Gavin Rodning of Fairmont, Minn., a graduate of Fairmont High School. He plans on attending Valley City State University in North Dakota, majoring in fisheries and wildlife science.

“The scholarship committee and all eleven counties in Area VI are proud of these fine graduates and their excellent academic, athletic, community and extracurricular accomplishments,” says M.R. Koenig, Renville County supervisor and Area VI scholarship chairman. “We are confident they will be highly successful in their collegiate and career, endeavors. Also, we would like to thank all that entered the contest this year.”
