It’s fascinating to think about time and what it actually is.
In Genesis 1:14, God establishes the cycle of days and seasons by which time is known. Einstein did his best to figure it out, in that time is connected to the speed of light, and if you go faster than the speed of light, you can go back in time.
Sounds easy enough, but no matter how hard I push on the accelerator and go down the biggest hill in Pennsylvania in my 1996 Volvo truck, I just can’t seem to back up time, even just a little, to make my scheduled appointment.
Feeling the pressure of time is one of the biggest causes of anxiety in my life. As I work on that ’96 Volvo truck to ensure it is safe in case we do get to that critical time-altering speed, I do fine until I realize I’m out of time and need to go. I get in a hurry, break things, overlook things and generally create a bigger mess than what I had at the beginning.
It then snowballs as the DOT officer graciously gives me a citation violation for something I tried to fix, and it takes an hour to do the inspection and paperwork. That makes it impossible for me to make the delivery that day, which messes up my schedule for the entire week. Anxiety just oozes out of my old Volvo.
Then I remember something: Slow down, take a deep breath and realize that God has a plan for every second of my life. Proverbs 16:9 tells us a man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
He has placed me in that time and place for a reason, and that is to glorify and enjoy him forever. That dissolves the anxiety and puts everything into a new perspective.
God created time for man and is not bound by its constraints. Life with him in Heaven is eternal. Some say that eternity is a long time, but in reality, it is the complete absence of time. Imagine an existence outside of the constraints of time. Imagine the freedom.
Next time you see a white ’96 Volvo passing you at that elusive speed of 186,282 miles per second, know that I finally got it fixed, and more than likely am headed into eternity to be with my Lord and savior where I can enjoy and glorify him forever.
While here on Earth, let’s tell and show as many people as possible who Jesus is and how they can experience an eternity with God. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2 that now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
