It must seem like Christmas in February for GM automakers who received record profit sharing payouts of up to $12,000 each. GM is finishing 2016 with 71 day supply of cars and trucks, which is a little above what the industry views as healthy. GM is going to idle production at some plants as car sales decline this year.

The anti-regulation tidal wave continues to roll through Washington. Yesterday, the U.S. House passed a resolution to repeal the Bureau of Land Management’s Planning 2.0 rule. Critics say the rule was rammed through by the Obama administration and ignored local input. One public lands advocate called it huge victory for cattle producers, in his words "common sense is finally being restored in Washington."

The grandfather who let his 8-year-old drive his car home from church has received one year probation.

Sen. Tom Rooney, a freshman lawmaker in the state of Illinois, has proposed a bill to get rid of state symbols to focus on the important ones like the flag, seal, motto and song.
