Miller had a part of the MFU team since 2007. Growing up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota, he had a passion for family farmers and rural communities, MFU co-workers said.

“Bruce dedicated his life to working for social justice, building relationships all over Minnesota that ultimately benefited MFU as an organization,” Gary Wertish, MFU president. “We were lucky to have him as a part of our team. He was well-regarded among family farmers, at the state Capitol, in the media and in food circles. He was always full of ideas for ways to increase MFU’s outreach to all kinds of people, and he served as the face of the ever-growing Minnesota Cooks program.

“I and everyone at MFU will deeply miss Bruce Miller. We send our thoughts and prayers to his wife Chris, his family and his many friends.”

On an MFU Facebook post, a friend shared how Miller was “a man of many talents and many interests. Bruce could make himself at home almost anywhere — lobbying for farmers, campaigning for Dems, hunting deer or antiques. He had cameo roles in major motion pictures and acted in many independent productions. A skilled fundraiser and communicator, he served on numerous boards of nonprofit organizations. He had a hearty appetite and turned his love of a great meal to the greater good by devoting many hours in the last decade promoting the farm-to-table food movement. ‘The Farmer and The Chef,’ a book that Bruce conceived and was co-writing with a team of food experts, will appear next summer.”

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Carpenters Local 322, 710 Olive St., St. Paul, MN. Visitors may begin gathering at 4:30 p.m. with the program starting at 5 p.m. A local foods lunch will follow.
