Our 2019 crop year was one of the best ones we have ever had.
We had the best corn yields to date and the third best soybean crop. After having a bad year in 2018, we were thankful to have such a good year.
Our soybean harvest went by quickly with next to no breakdowns, and we finished before the end of October.
Corn harvest dragged out a little longer than it should have between a couple minor repairs and a big crop that ran us short on storage space and lots of extra hauling, but we are not complaining. We had to sell more corn to make space for the remaining crop. A good problem to have.
Sheilah: Our family is finally getting ready to settle into our new house. We are really excited and have been anxiously waiting for this for a long time.
The building process was stressful and seemed to never end, but our new house will be well worth the wait, and I for one am excited to make that house a home!
The boys (Mike included) will be able to farm all winter in their new basement and then come up for cookie breaks when I break in my new kitchen!
Mike: I can’t wait ’til the 2020 growing season. I have a couple new-to-us sprayers to look at.
Having a bigger sprayer will allow me to better care for the crops and will also give me a bonus of extra time.
And yes, I finally got the approval from Sheilah. I better look at them before she changes her mind!

Last year we tried a few new things. The biggest thing was taking tissue samples on our crops. It turned out to be a great investment and we found out that our fields had the ability to produce more than I thought. Now that I know what the possibilities are, I am excited to try tissue sampling on some of our other fields next year.
Sheilah: It’s hard to say what all 2020 will bring. As Mike says, I definitely see more tissue sampling in our future.
Along with the new sprayer, I hope he knows I’ll be taking advantage of that “bonus” extra time he was talking about.
We pray that everyone has a prosperous, safe and happy 2020.
