I-29 dairy group hosts winter workshops

Dairy reproduction is the focus of the one-day symposiums.

The I-20 Dairy Outreach Consortium is sponsoring a winter workshop entitled, "What is Your Pregnant Cow Worth?"

The workshops will be held at five locations, one each in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska.

Workshop locations are as follows:

January 11: Mandan, ND: Baymont Inn & Suites, 2611 Old Red Trail
January 12: Watertown, SD: Codington Expo Building, 1910 West Kemp Ave
January 13: Pipestone, MN: Pizza Ranch, 108 W. Main St
January 14: Orange City, IA: Sioux County Extension Office, 400 Central Ave NW
January 15: Norfolk, NE: Lifelong Learning Center at NECC, 601 East Benjamin Ave

The workshops will focus on everything from synchronization of cows, the latest in genomics and genetics, using of records to get the best in cow performance, reproduction economics and the impacts of employee labor on reproduction.

The agenda, which is repeated at each location, is as follows:
9:00-10:00 am: Registration
10:00-10:15 am: Welcome
10:15-11:00 am: Synchronization 101 –Ryan Breuer, DVM, Iowa State University
11:00-11:45 am: Genomics and Genetics: Optimizing Your Choices – Jim Paulson, University of Minnesota
11:45-12:15 pm: Break
12:15-12:45 pm: Lunch
12:45-1:30 pm: Managing Personnel to Maximize Your Profits: Tracey Erickson, South Dakota State University and J.W. Schroeder, North Dakota State University
1:30-2:15 pm: Using Records to Keep Your Herd Performing – Jim Salfer, University of Minnesota
2:15-3:00 pm: Reproduction and Economics – Robert Tigner, University of Nebraska
3:00-3:30 pm: Wrap-up and Evaluation

The workshop cost is $65 per person, $25 for college/technical school students.
