Penn State University’s Farming for Success field day this Thursday, June 29, promises to be another big farmer-draw. The agronomy event at the Southeast Research and Extension Center near Landisville, Pa., provides “hot topic” research results and equipment demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies. It will be held at 1446 Auction Road, Manheim, Pa., between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Topics to be covered
State Ag Secretary Russell Redding will be giving keynote remarks. Participants will choose from three different tracks based upon their interests. Tour stops and sessions include:
• herbicide-resistant weed identification and control
• dicamba- and 2,4-D-resistant soybean plots
• “Planting Green” demonstration, hosted by Pennsylvania No-Till Alliance
• understanding and using electrical conductivity soil testing
• cover crop and “planting green” plot tour
• in-furrow fungicides
• advanced nitrogen management techniques for corn
• grain handling and bin safety
• farm transitioning and exiting strategies
• fusarium head blight control strategies
• herbicide timing impact on soybean yield
• farmer BMP survey results and the Chesapeake Bay
• Pennsylvania nutrient management update

Weeds and dinner
On the evening of June 28, the Southeast Research and Extension Center at Landisville will host its annual weed control field day, "Farming for Success." Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m.
The weed control plot tour runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., giving participants an opportunity to compare corn and soybean weed control trial results of competitive products. The evening winds up with a hot meal and socializing.
