Hulon Keith Land, 69, of Corpus Christi, Texas, known to Farm Press readers as Logan Hawkes, passed away Feb. 12 following a long illness.

For some 20 years Logan was a valued contributor to Farm Press Publications, working behind the scenes as a freelance writer and video editor. Those of us who worked with Logan knew him to be a tireless writer and video producer who was committed to delivering quality work on sometimes tight deadlines.

Logan produced DVD projects for the Farm Press High Cotton and Peanut Efficiency Awards, masterfully blending video imagery, still photography, and music into a visual essay depicting the honored farmers' management practices, stewardship philosophies and personal stories.

He contributed to numerous Farm Press special projects and as a special contributor to print and online publications.

Logan is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carla Land, sons Jason, Shane, Ryan, Regan and Kyle and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Fredericksburg, Texas, in the spring.
