Infrastructure owned by agriculture traders Viterra and Bunge Ltd. was damaged in Russian attacks at one of the biggest crop-handling ports in Ukraine, adding to the mounting losses suffered by its farm sector. Cattle bills advance to Senate

The Senate Agriculture Committee advanced out of committee and prepared for floor action two cattle market reform bills – the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act of 2022 and the Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act of 2022. Video games help Iowa man buy farm

Grant Hilbert always knew he wanted to be a farmer, but figured he'd have to work 20 or 30 years in another profession to afford to buy land in Iowa. Turns out he needed just six years of playing video games. Hilbert, 21, of Ankeny, made enough money from YouTube videos of him playing the Farming Simulator video game to help him buy 250 acres in Poweshiek and Mahaska counties that he now has planted in corn and soybeans. – Globe Gazette

SCOTUS rejects Bayer’s Roundup appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a multibillion-dollar appeal from Bayer AG, refusing to shield the company from potentially tens of thousands of claims that its top-selling Roundup weedkiller causes cancer. A Supreme Court victory would have saved Bayer an estimated $3 billion from the $16 billion the company has set aside to resolve all the litigation, according to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Holly Froum. – Bloomberg

CHS to build grain facility in Minnesota

CHS will begin construction this summer on a new state-of-the-art grain facility with 1.25 million bushels of additional storage capacity in Erskine, Minn. The facility is slated to be operational in fall 2023. The new shuttle elevator will bring total capacity at the location to 4.55 million bushels of storage and will complement existing CHS offerings for area producers. – The Farmer

Caterpillar to move headquarters to Texas
