Researchers from the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources are ready to share their results of research from corn to cattle during annual field days. The days start this month and run through September.

Field days are an opportunity for farmers and ranchers to interact with MU faculty, staff and graduate students. MU’s agricultural research centers will open their doors and fields for farmers to get close to some of the new research projects and new technologies in agriculture.

Here are the top 10 field days and MU events you won’t want to miss:

1. Mizzou Pest Management Field Day. This is a guided wagon-stop tour, where scientists will talk about cover crops, the latest dicamba research and weed control, just to name a few topics. It starts at 8 a.m. July 10 at Bradford Research Center, 4968 Rangeline Road, Columbia, Mo.

2. Crop and Soil Management Workshop. Do you want to dive deeper into weed identification, herbicide application or pest management? This is not a field day, but rather an all-day workshop starting at 7 a.m. July 12 that costs $75 for participants. It’s at Bradford Research Center, 4968 Rangeline Road, Columbia, Mo. 3. Vegetable Grower Field Day. The day’s events cover anything from watermelon to sweet potato management. It starts at 3 p.m. Aug. 2 at Bradford Research Center, 4968 Rangeline Road, Columbia, Mo.

4. Greenley Memorial Research Center Field Day. This is the field day where you can see some irrigation technology, like subsurface drip displays. It takes place starting at 7 a.m. Aug. 7 at Greenley Memorial Research Center,64399 Greenley Place, Novelty, Mo.

5. Graves-Chapple Research Center Field Day. Corn and soybean research are the main topics at this field day. Farmers will hear about disease and insect management strategies. It starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 28. This one is in northwest Missouri at the Graves-Chapple Research Center, 201 Highway 136 East, Rock Port.

6. Hundley-Whaley Research Center Twilight Tour. Here’s a chance to miss the day’s summer heat and learn a little at night. This tour begins at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 and runs until 8 p.m. There will be traditional corn and soybean topics, but don’t be surprised to hear about alternative farming endeavors, like beekeeping or maple syrup. Head over to Hundley-Whaley Research Center, 1109 S. Birch St., Albany, Mo., for this one.

7. Fisher Delta Research Center Field Day. You will get research and management updates on soybeans, corn, cotton and rice — all in one location. It starts at 9 a.m. Aug. 31 at Fisher Delta Research Center’s Rone Hall, County Road 308, Portageville, Mo.

8. Forage Systems Research Center Field Day. All things forage are the subject of this MU field day Sept. 11. Farmers and ranchers will learn how to manage forage for grazing. Participants have also seen how to manage pond systems, something that comes in handy during a drought year. This field day starts at 9 a.m. and takes place at Forage Systems Research Center, 21262 Genoa Road, Linneus, Mo.

9. Southwest Research Center Field Day. There is a lot of agriculture variety planned for Sept. 13 in Mount Vernon, Mo. MU researchers will cover topics from cattle genetics to fruit and vegetable production. This is typically a large event, with more than 400 attendees. Tours run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get to Southwest Research Center, 14548 Highway H, early for a free lunch.

10. Thompson Research Center Field Day. Beef production is the topic of the day Sept. 17. Providing farmers with research and insight on being profitable in the beef industry is the highlight of this field day. It is a late one, starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. It is held at the Thompson Research Center, 668 Northwest Highway C, Spickard, Mo.

All events except for the Crop and Soil Management Workshop are free and open to the public.
