Variable-rate technologies are helping growers fine-tune their plans throughout each growing season, and tillage is no longer an exception to that trend. A new vertical tillage tool from Summers provides the flexibility to do just that. The VRT2530 variable-rate tillage tool allows operators to adjust tillage aggressiveness. It’s a combination of conventional and vertical tillage, which gives the operator more control in the field.
Key features of the tool include a front row of dualmounted disk blades and a rear row of gang-mounted coulter blades. The angle of the front blades can be adjusted from 5 to 24 degrees, and those blades are slightly concave for soil mixing. The rear blades are fixed at a 0-degree angle for vertical tillage. The weight of the unit can be shifted between the front and rear blades using the hydraulic hitch. Changing the weight will vary the impact on the soil.
The company says the tool is ideal for operations with high yields and heavy residue.
Buyers can choose from a variety of finishing attachments such as three-bar harrows, rolling choppers and a harrowrolling basket combination. Five blade options are also available for the rear coulter gang.
List price for the VRT2530 starts at approximately $110,000, including mounted harrow and adjustable rolling basket options. For more information, visit summersmfg.com, or call 800- 732-4392.
