Deals on used farm equipment

A clear trend developing this year is the offering of Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) programs.  These programs let you step into used tractors, combines and other farm equipment with some assurance that it won’t break down, or, if it does, the dealerships will have you covered. Buyers can trade up to later model machines with newer technology and extended warranty.

The latest of these deals were announced this week by Case IH and New Holland. Their CPO programs apply to used combines and high-horsepower tractors. These programs include a comprehensive equipment inspection, extended powertrain warranty with no deductible, a $100 reward card for New Holland and Case IH parts, and service and parts support from authorized dealers.

Says Eric Weaver, senior director of marketing for Case IH, in a news release issued today: “This program will offer used equipment customers the reliability, warranty, special financing offers and peace of mind typically found only with new equipment purchases. By partnering with our dealers, CNH Industrial Parts & Service and CNH Industrial Capital, we can ensure uniform quality standards, warranties, parts benefits and financing options across our network on our most popular brands.”

With these recent announcements, now all of the major full-line OEMs, including Agco, Case IH, John Deere and New Holland, are pushing deals on used to get rid of some inventories, which companies say are pretty high right now. But it shouldn’t be too hard of a sell, because used is looking pretty attractive right now to buyers as commodity prices continue to take a hit, causing many to cinch up spending.

John Deere, which announced its CPO program for its 8 and 9 series tractors and late-model combines last May, this month added the same program for sprayer equipment. Buyers will also receive a one year subscription to JDLink telematics package.

Agco is offering CPO programs for tractors, combines, sprayers and haying equipment.
