The millions of dollars invested in agricultural innovation cannot be discounted when you measure the American farmer's ability to product food. And each year Farm Industry News highlights key innovations our readers have told us caught their eye. For 2013 it's an eclectic group from new ways to plant to new tools for harvest and more, the FIN Ovation winners we highlight here have taking on farming's challenges and bring their own unique solutions.

Chosen from a long list of products we've highlighted on these pages, and on our website, from November 2012 through October 2012 the products you see here are just the tip of a tech-filled iceberg that runs deep and is truly a foundation for this industry. We celebrate these honorees, but also give credit to every company that brings a new product or innovation to market targeted at a specific farmer need.

There were a couple trends this year that should not be missed. One key development is the rise of the cloud. One of our honorees is using that cloud, but our readers tell us that the general idea has merit and is a welcome innovation. We can't honor "the cloud" but keep in mind that innovative approaches help developers create products that fill specific niches. And in the next year, more cloud-based FIN Ovation honorees are sure to be spotlighted here.

Interestingly, this year we have some honorees that caught reader interest with products still in prototype. It's testament to your interest in getting the latest and greatest on your farm as quickly as possible. Take a look at these products and celebrate the spirit of innovation that keeps your operation productive.
