Catalog shopping

Gempler's 2003 catalog, with its 17,000 products and hundreds of new items, is now available for browsing. We found a few new products (among many) that are “must haves” for a farm business.

Tool rack

A new line of heavy-duty tool racks will help you organize a shed, shop or garage. The racks are constructed of heavy-gauge steel that is welded to a base and then powder coated to prevent rust. Several tools may be hung on the high-strength steel tubing, which is slightly angled to keep tools from sliding off. The racks are easily mounted to a wall with nails, bolts or screws. Price of the tool racks ranges from $8.50 to $12.50 each, depending on the size and number ordered.

High-intensity spotlight

Gempler's claims to offer the most powerful handheld rechargeable spotlight available. The spotlight boasts 3 million candlepower with its twin-beam, ultra-white light that carries up to 2 miles and focuses 50% more light on the target from 1,000 ft. away. You may switch from double beam to single beam with 1.3 million candlepower or to an area/utility light mode. It will work for 20 min. on the twin-beam setting. The 12v, sealed lead-acid battery may be recharged or operated with either 12v DC or 110v AC charger. The spotlight is built of weather-resistant ABS plastic for durability. Price: $55.

Halogen work lights

A new halogen work light will help you work on equipment at night. The 500W handheld unit features a hinged face frame for easy bulb changing, three foam padded feet to prevent slipping and a foam handle. It sells for $29.50. A dual-head unit with 47- to 81-in. telescoping tripod base allows you to turn on one or both light heads. Price: $89.50. Both lights are powder coated to prevent rust and corrosion. Circle 188.

All-purpose ditcher

Two North Dakota farmers designed and built a ditcher that handles the tough jobs needed on a farm. Edwin Erickson Sr. and Edwin Jr. have sold 150 of the ditchers they developed. Their ditcher is a combination of a scraper, flat-bottom ditcher, landscaping machine and a small road builder. It will cut ditches while water is standing so farmers can save their crops from drowning during wet periods. The ditcher will cut and clear washways and ditches. It also helps farmers build and maintain terraces.

Special features of the Eagle Ditcher include a door that diverts dirt either to the left or right, a hydraulic terracing dirt deflector, and the ability to adjust how far dirt is dispersed (up to 120 ft.). The machine runs at 2 to 4 mph and cuts 1 to 9 in. deep. A tractor with 135 hp and higher can power the PTO-driven ditcher.

The Ericksons say the ditcher is durable enough to handle rocky conditions and most other conditions, from standing water to dry dirt. It lists for $17,350.

Erickson Manufacturing plans to release another model soon called the Double Eagle. This model will make a standard 8- or 9-ft. cut with the optional wing extension kit. Contact Erickson Mfg. Co. Inc., Dept. FIN, 13946 86th St. S.E., Milnor, ND 58060, 888/ 427-5944, visit
