Members and alumni of Winona FFA are in the process of planning the chapter’s 75th anniversary celebration.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 4 in the concourse of Winona Senior High School.

“The celebration will give former members a chance to reconnect, share memories and celebrate the success of the organization,” says Katelyn Sather, one of the anniversary committee members. “There will be a display of Winona FFA memorabilia, a program at 2 p.m. and refreshments.”

The Winona FFA was founded on Dec. 4, 1941, Sather says. The first FFA Chapter consisted of 51 members, led by President Bill Saehler. In 1985, Cindy Thesing was elected the first female president. Over the course of 75 years, the chapter has been placed in the top 1% of the nation's 8,000-plus chapters. Six Winona FFA members have served as Minnesota state officers, and 16 have earned the prestigious American FFA Degree — the highest honor an FFA member can achieve.

Members and alumni with memorabilia or pictures to share are welcome to do so. Additional volunteers also are welcome to contribute to the event, Sather says. A committee of 10 volunteers, led by Winona FFA alumni President Roger Aldinger, is working on the event. Thus far, volunteers have sent out 150 invitations to past presidents, degree winners and state officers.

To help with the event, or if you have items to share, please call Brian or Katelyn Sather at 507-454-8169, or email [email protected].
