Trump taps McMorris Rodgers to lead Interior

She is the highest-ranking GOP woman in Congress.

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to pick Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers as Interior Secretary, according to CNBC.

McMorris Rodgers was first elected to Congress in 2004 and she is the fourth highest-ranking Republican in the House and the highest-ranking GOP woman in Congress, The Wall Street Journal reports.

She is vice chair of Trump's transition team, according to The Hill. If confirmed by the Senate, McMorris Rodgers will lead the 70,000-employee party, which manages federal lands for preservation and energy and mineral development. The department oversees national parks and controls offshore drilling.
