Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.47 billion bushels, according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Crop Production report.
If realized, the production will be a record, breaking the previous record of 1.43 billion bushels set in 2015, according to the Minnesota field office. Based on conditions as of Sept. 1, yields are expected to average 184 bushels per acre, unchanged from August but a decrease of 4 bushels per acre from last year. If realized, the yield per acre will be second-highest all time, behind last year’s record yield.
Acres harvested for grain remain unchanged at 8 million acres.
NEW HIGH FOR CORN PRODUCTION: Minnesota is forecast to produce 1.47 billion bushels of corn in the 2016 growing season, according to the newest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Crop Production report.
Soybean production is forecast at 380 million bushels. If realized, the production will be a record, ahead of last year’s 378 million bushels. The Sept. 1 forecast yield is 49 bushels per acre, up 2 bushels from August but 1 bushel below 2015. If realized, the yield will be the second-highest, trailing only last year. Area harvested remains unchanged at 7.75 million acres.
Sugarbeet production is estimated at 12.2 million tons, up slightly from last year. Yield is forecast at a record 28.5 tons per acre, unchanged from the August forecast but up 0.5 ton from the previous record of 28 tons in 2015.
Across the U.S., corn production is forecast at 15.1 billion bushels, up 11% from last year but down less than 1% from the August forecast. Based on conditions as of Sept. 1, yields are expected to average 174.4 bushels per acre, down 0.7 bushel from the August forecast, but up 6 bushels from 2015. If realized, this will be the highest yield and production on record for the United States. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 86.6 million acres, unchanged from the August forecast, but up 7% from 2015.
Soybean production is forecast at a record 4.2 billion bushels, up 3% from August and up 7% from last year. Based on Sept. 1 conditions, yields are expected to average a record 50.6 bushels per acre, up 1.7 bushels from last month and up 2.6 bushels from last year. Area for harvest in the United States is forecast at a record 83.0 million acres, unchanged from August but up 1% from 2015.
All crop forecasts in this report are based on Sept. 1 conditions and do not reflect weather effects since that time. The next production forecasts, based on conditions as of Oct. 1, will be released Oct. 12.
