Grand Champion Meats 2016 Retail Beef Backer winner

Family-owned business manages a meat locker and retail stores in Foley and Crosslake.

The Minnesota Beef Council selected Grand Champion Meats of Foley and Crosslake as its 2016 Minnesota Retail Beef Backer Award winner.

The award, funded by the Minnesota Beef Checkoff program, honors retailers who have gone the extra mile to market and merchandise beef in Minnesota through execution of outstanding beef promotions.

“We are honored to receive the Retail Beef Backer Award from the Minnesota Beef Council. This award will not only allow us to build retail beef sales, but also will enhance our custom harvest beef business. Additionally, this award will allow us to further enhance our relationships with our local farmers, as well as communities in Minnesota,” said Kelly Gall Washa, owner of Grand Champion Meats.

For 35 years, Grand Champion Meats, a second generation family owned business, has worked to promote beef through its meat locker and retail store in the Foley area. After much business success, Grand Champion Meats expanded its business to offer a second retail store in the Crosslake area in 2013.

Grand Champion Meats is proud offer the finest cuts of prime beef through a variety of beef packages, hanging beef and steak packages that it offers at both retail locations.

Grand Champion Meats also supports community nonprofits through the sponsorship of brat and hamburger nights during the summer for local scout groups and 4-H clubs. It also uses social media and blogging to further engage customers and uses resources from the Minnesota Beef Council to help in increase beef sales.
