Export numbers remains strong through summer months for beef and pork.

But with labor negotiations stalled between longshoreman and port operations, concerns are increasing about a strike and the impact that could shut down container exports.

The beef industry exported 110 metric tons up 7 percent from 2023.

Japan and Taiwan are strong markets for USA beef exports. And Mexico is also a strong market importing 21,000 metric tons up 21 percent from 2023.

The outlook for the remainder of the year is encouraging in beef and pork export markets.

Record pork exports to Mexico were recorded-- and that was mirrored across Latin America.

Export movement is solid, however concerns are rising about bottlenecks from the strike in beef and pork exports.

The west coast exports handle most of the USA pork and beef exports.

About 30 percent of the beef and 45 percent of the pork move through the ports that are threatening a strike and while they could be moved to the west coast temporarily-- it would not be a long term solution.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
