Ethanol gives American drivers a better performing, cleaner, less expensive fuel option – and today, higher blends containing 15 percent ethanol are available at more than 1,800 gas stations around the country saving consumers up to 10 cents per gallon at the pump. 1

Ethanol Fast-Facts

  • In 2018, 365,883 jobs were supported by ethanol 2

  • The ethanol industry produces over 44 million tons of animal feed, which helps meet our nation’s need for fuel and food 3

  • The ethanol industry has a production capacity of over 16 billion gallons 4

  • 98 percent of our gasoline supply contains ethanol 5

  • More than 90 percent of the cars on the road today are approved to use 15 percent ethanol blends 6

  • Adding ethanol to gasoline saved U.S. consumers $9.7 billion in 2017 alone 7

Reducing our Environmental Footprint
Corn ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 39 percent compared to conventional gasoline and has the potential to reduce emissions by as much as 76 percent.8 Ethanol also helps displace toxic chemicals in petroleum that have been linked to cancer, groundwater contamination, and smog.9 Meanwhile, precision farming and technological innovation have helped cut land use for corn by more than 4 million acres since 2007, 10 and advanced biofuels like cellulosic ethanol can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100 percent or more. 11

The Value of Homegrown Biofuels
Today, the U.S. consumes more than 19 million barrels of oil per day, and about 19 percent of that is still being imported from other countries. 12 Since 2005, net oil imports have dropped by more than 70 percent in part due to the increased production of renewable fuels like ethanol. 13
