Comments must be submitted by Feb. 25, 2020 on a Food Safety and Inspection Service labeling guideline regarding documentation needed to substantiate animal raising claims on labels.

What is this?

Under the Federal Meat Inspection Act and Poultry Products Inspection Act, FSIS develops and implements regulations to require that the labels of meat and poultry products are truthful. The Agriculture Secretary must approve the labels before the products are sold. Any label with a special statement or claim must be submitted to FSIS for approval.

What are some examples of animal-raising claims?

Examples include "vegetarian-fed," "grass-fed," and "raised without the use of antibiotics."
