Sometimes I think that we are working way too hard to explain ourselves to consumers.
We go toe-to-toe with the animal rights activists.
We run ads on TV and in magazines trying to convince city people to trust us.
We track what we do to protect the water, air, soil and wildlife.
We hold townspeoples' hands on tours, showing them the way around feedlots, sow barns and cornfields.
Imagine what we could with the millions -- maybe billions -- of hours and dollars we collectively are spending trying to teach consumers about agriculture and win them over.?
Sometimes I think a more simple, direct approach would be better.
A farmer wears a T-shirt with a simple message for consumers.
I saw this slogan on a T-shirt worn by a farmer at the 2015 Farm Progress Show: “Corn makes Whiskey, Wheat Make Beer. Potatoes Make Vodka. Can't get drunk without farmers.”
Enough said.
