The AgStar Fund for Rural America recently announced its increase in support for the county fair facility upgrade grant program by offering an additional $20,000 in awarded grant dollars, for a total of $70,000 available.

Each county in AgStar's local service area can apply for up to $3,000 to be used towards repairs on fairground agricultural buildings.

Aiming to support rural areas by funding county fair organizations, the mission of this program is sustained by helping maintain or upgrade fairground livestock buildings and judging arenas. With the additional dollars to support this initiative, the fund board intends to give out more awards this year, in addition to raising the maximum grant amount from $2,500 to $3,000.  To date, the Fund has awarded $241,670 in grant support towards the facility upgrade project.

"Yearly maintenance and general up-keep of these structures can be expensive," says John Monson, chair of AgStar's Fund Board of Trustees. "The facility upgrade grant program is important to our next generation of agriculture, giving these youth the facilities they need to showcase their livestock and projects. The county fair experience is really important in their development of leadership and agriculture expertise."

Applications considered for funding must be submitted online at www.AgStar.com.

Applications will be accepted through March 31.

County fair associations and 4H groups located in one of the 69 counties within AgStar's chartered territory are eligible to apply if they have not received a grant from AgStar in the past two years.

Since its inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated over $4 million to organizations in communities that work to improve the future of rural America. Support must align with the Fund's mission of "enhancing life in agriculture and rural America."
