1. The EPA Inspector General will audit an EPA grant to Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission that was used to finance a campaign that some consider anti-farmer. – Farm Futures

2. The Cornucopia Institute of Wisconsin has filed a lawsuit alleging USDA appointed agribusiness representatives to fill two seats on the National Organic Standards Board reserved for farmers. – Farm Futures


3. The House Appropriations Committee approved the fiscal year 2017 Agriculture Appropriations bill on April 19. The bill also delays a new rule by USDA that changes requirements for SNAP retailers and prevents the slaughter of horses for human consumption within the United States. – Farm Futures

4. Monsanto announced the five regional winners of its 2016 America’s Farmers Mom of the Year Contest. The women are from North Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Kentucky. – Farm Futures

6. The House Agriculture Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit held a hearing focused on credit in rural economy on April 19. It was the second in a series of hearing planned to focus on the farm economy. – Farm Futures

7. Vietnam’s Mekong Delta district is experiencing the worst drought in 90 years. It’s the region that produces more than half of Vietnam’s rice and fruit. – USA Today
