Farm Bill Pushes Into New Year

The decision by Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) not to complete the Farm Bill in 2001 provoked critical comments from House Ag Committee Chairman Larry Combest (R-TX).

“For the Senate to delay passage of the Farm Bill and then not complete its job is like shining up the tractor, driving up to the edge of the field and stalling the engine,” Combest says.

When Congress reconvenes with work in February, Daschle says he counts on a narrow time window for passage before a new budget process begins.
