The Iowa State University Ag Decision Maker website has a rich 25-year history of offering online information. It serves as a portal to access much of the ag economic information provided by ISU Extension. Now, add-on webinars are available to help explain and update those timely farm economic topics.
The next free live webinar, Crop Marketing Strategies, will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 19. Featured speakers include Steve Johnson, ISU Extension farm management specialist, and Ed Kordick, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation farmer education program manager. A direct link to register for the November meeting is bit.ly/agdmnov20.
They’ll present on:
- current corn and soybean supply-and-demand and price outlook
- local basis trends and futures price carry
- cost of grain ownership
- crop marketing strategies, tools and market planning
Another way to improve your understanding of crop marketing — and do it at your own pace — is to take an online course. ISU Extension is offering the Online Crop Marketing Course that begins Nov. 10.
This is a non-credit professional certificate course. It provides learning opportunities for various crop marketing strategies and explains the tools you can use to develop your farm’s crop marketing plans. You can explore futures and options contracts, futures carry, futures price movements, and basis and cost of grain ownership trends.
The interactive online course format consists of video presentations and 13 modules with crop marketing information and quizzes. This course uses active learning tools to give you crop marketing expertise and is taught by Johnson and Kordick.
It is anticipated it will take you approximately four weeks to complete this course. The course opens for sign-up Nov. 10 and you can start taking the course any time after you sign up and register. You must register before Feb. 12 to finish by the March 15 closing date. The cost is $200, and you can register at Iowa State University.
More meetings moved to online
What were previously face-to-face ISU Extension farm management meetings and workshops in the fall and winter will now be held online only.
The Pro-Ag Outlook meetings typically held statewide in the fall by ISU Extension in past years will be replaced with daily webinars the week of Dec. 7- 11. Use the same webpage ISU Extension to preregister; a small registration fee will be charged.
